Originally from St. Petersburg, Russia, Alexei Girsh received his Bachelor’s Degree from the Glinka Music College, his Master’s Degree in Conducting from the Glinka Conservatory, and his PhD in Opera and Symphony Conducting from the Moussorgsky Conservatory. He served as Principal Conductor of the Radio-Television Symphony of Vladivostok, Music Director of the St. Petersburg Youth Symphony, and a professor at the Institute of the Arts in St. Petersburg.
Since moving to Redmond in 1991, Maestro Girsh has been Music Director of the Washington Wind Symphony, the Youth Philharmonic Northwest, the Bellevue Ballet Orchestra, and currently the Eastside Symphony (since 1992), the Renton Youth Symphony orchestra, the Boeing Concert Band, and the Concert Opera of Seattle, which he founded. He has taught orchestration, conducting, and composition, and often guest conducts with the Northwest Mahler Festival. In 2000 he was honored with the city of Redmond’s Patron of the Arts Award.
