Andrea Overturf

Andrea Overturf is a 17-year-old High School senior who has been playing the oboe for 7 years.  In 1999 she won an all expenses paid trip to Japan to compete in the 6th Annual Takasaki International Arts Competition for High School Artists, hosted by the Takasaki Arts College, in the oboe division. She was the recipient of the Nyrheghyezi Award, awarded by the President of the College, when she performed there.  She has been a member of the Seattle Youth Symphony since 1998, in which she has served as English horn and principal oboe.  In a review of the May, 2000 Youth Symphony concert, the Seattle Post Intelligencer wrote of her playing, “. . . English horn principal, Andrea Overturf, stood out for her beautifully phrased, lyrical lines.” In August 2000 Andrea was a winner of the Marrowstone Music Festival Concerto Competition and performed Vivaldi’s oboe concerto in C Major.  She was the solo English horn in the 1998 and 2000 Washington All State Band, and 1st oboe in the 1999 All Northwest Band. She was the WMEA State Oboe Solo Champion in 2000, 2nd place in 1999, and a finalist in 1998.  Ms. Overturf studies with Rebecca Henderson, professor of oboe at the University of Washington, and in the coming year will be applying to music conservatories to continue her studies in music.
