Matthew Palumbo, seventeen years old, began his piano career at the age of six with Mrs. Angelina Latimer. In March 2004, he began studying with Ms. Judy Baker.

Under Ms. Baker’s direction, he has won and received high honors in a variety of international and state competitions, including the 2006 International Institute for Young Musicians, Kansas; 2006 Oberlin Summer Music Festival, Ohio; 2006 Charles LaNasa Award for Piano Performance; 2006 Linda Sandell Award for Chamber Music; 2006 Snohomish County Music Teacher Association Scholarship; 2006 Seattle Young Artist Music Festival Concerto Competition; 2006 CRC; 2006 Everett Concerto Competition; 2005 Chopin Competition; the 2005 District and State Washington Music Educators Association Piano Solo Competition; the 2004 Port Gardner Concerto Competition as well as many others.

Matthew has performed numerous recitals at the downtown Seattle Sherman Clay. He also played in the high school–sponsored musical Grease under the direction of Amy Gentry.

Currently, Matthew is attending Edmonds Community College in the Running Start program, where he was placed on the Dean’s Honor Roll for the last two consecutive quarters. He also attends the Academy of Music Northwest in Bellevue where he regularly performs solo and ensemble works.

Matthew was invited to be a part of the Tiny Tots concert series at Nordstrom Hall in Benaroya Hall where he played the role of ‘Chopin’ in the Chopin series. He also performed in a trio in the Beethoven series.

Besides being involved with his church worship team, he also teaches piano to four students, volunteers in summer soccer programs for young children, swims, loves books and movies, attends lots of concerts, loves musicals and plays, cooks, and especially likes playing with his Irish Setter, “Rex.”

Matthew’s passion is music and he loves to perform in concerts with other musicians. He intends to major in music and is looking at a variety of schools for future study.
