Violinist Leonid Keylin has enjoyed success both as
soloist and a chamber musician in the United States and abroad. His solo
appearances have taken him to New York, Washington, Baltimore, Seattle,
Tokyo, Osaka, Hong Kong, Taipei and other major cities in over thirty
countries. As a member of numerous New York based ensembles - acting often
as the concertmaster – he has toured throughout Europe, South America,
Israel, South Africa and the Far East.
Mr. Keylin has been a faculty member at the Waterloo
Festival and was concertmaster of Mid-Atlantic Chamber Orchestra in
Washington D.C. and the Virginia Beach Orchestra. He also performed with the
New York Chamber Symphony, Mostly Mozart, Soviet Émigré Orchestra and is
currently a member and frequent soloist with the New York Symphonic Ensemble
on their tours to Asia.
A native of St. Petersburg, Russia, Leonid Keylin began
musical studies at age six with his mother, herself an accomplished
musician. A year later, he was accepted to the Special Music School for
Gifted Children of the St. Petersburg Conservatory. He went on to capture
numerous prizes and awards which led to concerts both in recital and as
soloist with orchestras in St. Petersburg, Moscow and other cities in
Russia. After immigrating to the United States in 1979, Mr. Keylin graduated
from The Juilliard School, where he was a scholarship student of Dorothy
DeLay. In 1991 Mr. Keylin became a member of the Seattle Symphony, with
which he has appeared as soloist on numerous occasions. As an avid chamber
musician, the violinist has been a regular participant of the Seattle
International Festival and is also a founding member of the Seattle-based
Petrus Quartet. Leonid Keylin has recorded for CBS, Angel, Melodia and the
Musical Heritage labels. |
