Ben McDonald was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska.
From the early age of eight, Ben realized that he was in love with the sound
of the Trumpet. From his first gig with the Anchorage Symphony, Ben knew
that he wanted to pursue a life as a performer and a teacher. His mother,
who is a retired music teacher of 34 years, and a gifted singer has been a
tremendous musical influence and motivator.
Ben received a degree from the University of Kentucky in Music Education,
under the instruction of Vincent DiMartino. After teaching Band in the
public schools for 15 years, Ben in now performing full-time. He is
currently studying with Dr. William Fielder of Rutgers University.
Ben was soloist with the Seattle Philharmonic, Port Angeles symphonies this
past season. He is currently adjunct Brass Instructor with Pacific Lutheran
University, and is Coach and Sectional Conductor with both the Tacoma Youth
Symphony. Ben has performed for over 25 years and has had the honor of
playing with The Oregon Symphony, Portland Opera, St. Johns Chamber
Orchestra, Portland Chamber Orchestra, Seattle's’ Bumbershoot, and Mt. Hood
Jazz Festival, to name a small sampling.
Ben is married to a Firefighter . And is the father of a fifteen year old
daughter, Madison and four year old twin boy and girl, Sayer and Ciel.
Ben’s passion for teaching is evident. His philosophy is to use the language
of music to train the whole student. The dedication and commitment that Ben
nurtures in each of his students encourages growth in all aspects of their
lives and teaches far more than the skills of musicianship. |
